ICHF Combatives Training in Afghanistan

Philip DuPree, an ICHF certified instructor and black belt, is also a Naval Flight Officer and a Commander in the United States Naval Reserves. In January 2008, CDR DuPree and his unit Tactical Electronic Attack Squadron 209 (VAQ-209) deployed to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. CDR DuPree is the Executive Officer of his unit that flies the EA-6B Prowler, a four place tactical jet aircraft that specializes in electronic warfare. Although the men and women of VAQ-209 were focused on the mission 24/7, CDR DuPree was able to provide hard-charging shipmates with the opportunity to learn about Combat Hapkido. A regular group of 12 sailors participated in the training twice a week. Philip reports that the experience of teaching self-defense in a combat zone was a very rewarding and well received opportunity. CDR DuPree and his squadron have returned safely to the states and Philip has resumed his Combat Hapkido training under Master Frank Huff in his hometown of Hillsborough, NJ. As for his squadronmates, they are eager for the next opportunity to train. Thank you Philip, for your service and for contributing to the safety and readiness of our troops with your Combatives instruction.
