NEWSFLASH - MAY 2008 - Part 2

“Military Combatives Association”

Enclosed with this NewsFlash you’ll find a brochure and application for the MCA.  This organization is reserved for military personnel (active, reserve, retired, veterans).  However we have also created a class of membership for civilians who want to support our military and show their appreciation and respect for those who serve in uniform.

  • A portion of all membership dues will be donated every year to the Wounded Warrior Project.
  • Those already qualified, will be “Grandfathered” as Military Combatives Instructors.
  • We are developing a military combatives curriculum that will be distributed (at no cost) to all active and instructor members.
  • We will be conducting training seminars for troops anywhere in the World.
  • Military combatives instructor courses will be offered only to MCA members.

Do not forget:  The first word in Martial Arts is “Martial” which means “military / warrior”. Of all segments of society we martial artists, with our warrior tradition, should be the largest and strongest group of supporters of the troops and contribute to their training and welfare.  Please join us today in this noble endeavorMca083_4.

NEWSFLASH - MAY 2008 - Part 1

“MIXED MARTIAL ARTS”

Due to the incredible popularity MMA is enjoying around the World and the massive media exposure it has been given, we have received hundreds of inquiries concerning a MMA program with proper Instructor Certification.  In response to that, several months ago, we appointed Master David Rivas to develop an exciting MMA curriculum and issue Instructor Credentials.  We are proud to announce that the program is finally ready.  Now, when potential students walk in or call one of our schools and ask “Do you teach MMA?”, you will be able to respond with a confident “Yes!”.

Here is the simple procedure:

1)       Who is eligible?

a.      All Martial Artists over 18 years old.

2)      What is the cost?

a.      All ICHF / ITA members (Charter or Individual) $149.

b.      Non-members $199.

3)      What will you receive?

a.      A comprehensive Instructor Manual with the recommended curriculum.

b.      An Instructor Certificate

This program is scientifically sound, fun, effective and easy to teach.  Regardless if you are serious about training fighters for competitions or you just want to offer a new, exciting program to your community or even if you just want to improve the fighting skills and fitness of your current students, our MMA program is for you.  Instructors of our charter schools who do not have the time, desire or physical ability to become certified MMA instructors, can and should select one (or more) of their students to teach the program. It will give school owners a great return on investment.  We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to tap into this fast growing market.

Note:  Master Rivas, the Director of the program, is available to teach exciting one-day seminars to supplement the manual and help you refine your MMA teaching skills.  If you are interested in hosting one, contact DSI Headquarters.

ICHF Combatives Training in Afghanistan

Philip DuPree, an ICHF certified instructor and black belt, is also a Naval Flight Officer and a Commander in the United States Naval Reserves. In January 2008, CDR DuPree and his unit Tactical Electronic Attack Squadron 209 (VAQ-209) deployed to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. CDR DuPree is the Executive Officer of his unit that flies the EA-6B Prowler, a four place tactical jet aircraft that specializes in electronic warfare. Although the men and women of VAQ-209 were focused on the mission 24/7, CDR DuPree was able to provide hard-charging shipmates with the opportunity to learn about Combat Hapkido. A regular group of 12 sailors participated in the training twice a week. Philip reports that the experience of teaching self-defense in a combat zone was a very rewarding and well received opportunity. CDR DuPree and his squadron have returned safely to the states and Philip has resumed his Combat Hapkido training under Master Frank Huff in his hometown of Hillsborough, NJ. As for his squadronmates, they are eager for the next opportunity to train. Thank you Philip, for your service and for contributing to the safety and readiness of our troops with your Combatives instruction.
